Meet Trasean Singletary

Trasean Singletary is an aspiring Special Olympics athlete who has a huge passion for running, giving back to the community and continuing to move forward. Trasean deeply cares about world peace and connecting with those around him in order to make a positive impact on others. Trasean runs everywhere he goes, as that allows him to get through each and every day and to keep moving on in life.

During Trasean’s experience at the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin Germany, he ran the 3k, 5k, and 4 x 4 relay. Trasean won a bronze medal for the 5k with a time of 21:31.68, as well as won a gold medal for the 3k with a time of 12:18.10. Trasean also wants to do a 10k run in a future Special Olympics World Games event.

Trasean also got to meet fellow Special Olympics athletes from different parts of the world, such as one from Australia, and some who hailed from Ireland and Canada. Trasean and his fellow athletes had a good time competing against each other. At the same time though, they understood that this was all fun and games still and the importance of showing good sportsmanship and having a good time. He also appreciated how peaceful and at home he felt during this particular event, and how above all, he felt at ease and extremely positive during this experience. He loved being in Berlin, but would love to travel again to compete in the World Games in Paris, Tokyo, and London.

Besides running, Trasean’s favorite Special Olympics sports are soccer and basketball. These sports help him hone his skills of speed and running. He wants to make sure he’s continuing to challenge himself in life. Trasean understands the importance of teamwork, as well as giving it your all and never giving up.

On top of his incredible contributions to Special Olympics, Trasean also works at Norfolk Laundry. He has been a Norfolk Laundry staff member for more than 10 years. According to Norfolk Production Manager, Bob Anders, Trasean brings the same amount of passion, effort and determination to his job that he brings to running.
