Kareem Poindexter had been struggling to hear clearly for years even with his hearing aids. At the games, he visited Healthy Athletes, a program that offers free health screenings and education to Special Olympics athletes.
While there, it was determined that one of his hearing aids was broken and the other was working intermittently. So, what did they do? They gave him brand new hearing aids on the spot. After that, Kareem could finally hear his coaches yelling at him. He could hear a whisper. The difference was life changing.
