Travis Hunter has been a Special Olympics Virginia athlete for more than 20 years, competing in almost every sport from basketball to swimming to bowling. As a child with autism, Travis was non-verbal until the age of three, but sports helped him find his voice and build confidence.
At 35, Travis has no plans to slow down. He represented Team USA in speed skating at the 2013 World Games, winning two gold and one silver medal. His parents credit Special Olympics for helping him grow into the confident, determined person he is today.
“Special Olympics has given him a voice and shaped him into who he is,” said his mother, Diane.
